Sonata in F Major, Op. 46, No. 3, Mvt. 3 by Dmitry Kabalevsky
Raelyn Hoang, 13, is a 7th grader at Mercer Middle School in Loudoun County, Virgina. She began studying piano at the age of four and has been a student of Mrs. Silva Blazquez since the age of eight. Since last summer, Raelyn won first place in the Virginia State Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Junior Piano Performance, second place in the Asian American Music Society (AAMS) International Music Competition, second place in the Washington Music Teachers Association (WMTA) Novik Concerto Competition, second place in the Steinway Piano Competition, second place in the Northern Virginia Music Teachers Association (NVMTA) Robert Spencer Piano Concerto Competition, second place in the Robert and Frances Allen Young Artist Competition, and third place in the Southern Division MTNA Junior Piano Performance. In her free time, Raelyn loves to read, write short stories, and play tennis. Piano has impacted Raelyn's life in many positive ways. It allows her to express her thoughts and feelings through music. It also allows her to share her musical interpretations of many different composers with her family, friends and others. Through music, Raelyn has developed self-confidence, responsibility, determination, and time management.

Malvyn Lai, 2nd Prize & Audience Award
Final Round Performance Piece:
Grandes Études Paganini in A Minor, No. 6, "Theme and Variations" by Franz Liszt
Malvyn Lai started playing piano at age 5. At age 9, he performed his first public solo recital, which was featured on San Diego's Fox 5 evening news. He debuted as a soloist with the Kostroma Symphony orchestra in Russia at age 10 after winning the Grand Prize in the AFAF Concerto Competition. Since then, he has performed with Southern California's Inland Valley Symphony, Temecula Valley Symphony, and the Long Island Festival Orchestra in New York. Last year, Malvyn performed Chopin's Concerto No.2 with the Danube Symphony Orchestra in Hungary, with the Torino Symphony Orchestra in Poland, and with the Grossmont Symphony Orchestra. He has won many awards in the International Piano Competitions and scholarships. Recently, he was invited to compete in the Steinway and Sons final concert in May. Malvyn is a regular participant at local charity concert programs. He performed at the Heart of a Child Concert to help raise awareness about cardiac care for children. During the news interview, he mentioned that he likes piano now "even more than when I was a kid, because I keep practicing and get to higher levels and can play more beautiful pieces and deliver the message of music to people in a better way than before."

Passacaglia by Aaron Copland
Noah Greenstein-Sheppard, age 10, has been studying piano since he was three. Since 2012, Noah has studied with Dr. Paul Wirth. Noah has received Honorable Mention in the lat three annual Mozart Concerto Competitions of the Minnesota Music Teachers Forum, and in 2017 was awarded a First Prize in the Chopin Competition of the Young Artist World Piano Forum by judge Anne Schein - as well as being a finalist in that festival's Mozart Concerto Competition. Noah has been fortunate to have been selected for master classes with Dr. Alexander Braginsky of the University of Minnesota and, in February of 2018, with Yekwon Sunwoo, the 2017 Gold Medalist of the Van Cliburn Competition. Most recently, he completed a one-hour performance at the Mountain Lake Club in Lake Wales, Florida, featuring works by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Copland. Noah has come to love performance best of all, as he feels it is the most direct way to share his love of and ideas about great music with others.

Starting from a young age in Victoria, Canada, Michael has loved the piano and has excelled in it since he was six. A student of Dr. Bok Hwa Kim since 2015, Michael has been a first prize winner in various competitions, including the 2016 and 2018 Gertrude Brown Competition, the 2017 Miriam S. Gottlieb Competition, and the 2017 Doris and Larry Chase Sonata Competition. He has also been awarded top placements in the 2017 and 2018 YMIC International Competition, and the 2017 Knabe Young Artist Competitiom. Michael cannot imagine his life without piano. Piano provides Michael with goals that he wants to accomplish, and ultimately, piano has given Michael motivation to improve himself everyday.

Toccata, Op. 15 by Robert Muczynski
In 2015, Ceicilia won first prize at Grand Prize Virtuoso, Vienna, and in Paris with an absolute (100/100) score. At her performance at the Musikverein in Vienna, she was also awarded the "Best Beethoven" Award. Since then, she won other prestigious International competitions, including the first prizes in the Golden Classical Music Award 2016 for solo and duet in the junior category, and the second prize at the International Piano Competition 2016 at UCSI University, Malaysia. In 2016, Ceicilia won first prize in the junior category at the Global Outstanding Chinese Artist Association, and she was also awarded the best talent and contract junior award. She was selected to perform with the prestigious Wuhan Philharmonic Orchestra on the 2017 Children's Day Concert in Wuhan, China. She Won second prize at the 2017 Chopin International Competition in Connecticut, USA, and she was invited to perform at the Chopin Festival in Poland. She won first prize for both solo and duet at the 2017 American Protégé, USA, and she and performed in Carnegie Hall in 2018.
