Preliminary Round 1: Saturday, June 3, 2017
Audition times between 8:00 am and 3:30 pm University of Maryland, College Park Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, School of Music College Park, MD 20742 Location and Parking Information for Applicants: The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center is located near Stadium Drive and University Blvd and across from Maryland Stadium. Free parking is available in lot 1b. Parking in the Stadium Drive Garage costs $3 per hour. Auditions will be held in Leah Smith Hall. Warm up space will be available in room 2201. Knabe Institute representatives will be there to greet and assist!

Final Round Concert & Awards Presentation:
Sunday, June 11, 2017 (5:00 pm) University of Maryland, Baltimore County Earl and Darielle Linehan Concert Hall 1000 Hilltop Circle Baltimore, MD 21250 Final Round Location Information: The University of Maryland, Baltimore County, is located off of Rt 166 (exit 47B from I-95) When entering campus from Rt 166, turn left on to Hilltop Circle, and then turn right to park in lot 8. Lot 8 parking is free during the weekend. Warm up space will be available for finalists upon check in. An information table will be located outside of the concert hall. Will-call tickets, ticket purchases, participant certificates, and other information will be available on site. Don't forget, non-finalists receive a point towards future rewards when attending the final round performance! Don't forget to sign in at the information table to receive your credit. Competition Requirements
General Requirements
• Residence in the United States
• Each category has time limits, however, students who exceed time limit and are asked to stop will not be penalized.
• Students who are under time will not be penalized if performance fully demonstrates the student's capabilities.
Repertoire Requirements
Ages 7-9
• 2 original piano pieces from different periods (1 must be from the Classical or Romantic Era) totaling 2-5 minutes
Ages 10-13
• 2 or 3 original piano pieces from different periods (1 must be from the Classical or Romantic Era) totaling 5-8 minutes
Ages 14-17
• 3 original piano pieces from at least 2 different periods totaling 8-15 minutes.
Repertoire must include a movement of a Classical or Romantic period sonata or sonatina and a virtuosic piece (such as an etude)
Live Audition Requirements
• Online or mailed application must be received by May 15th, and a location preference must be selected.
• Audition times and locations will be confirmed with applicants on or before May 24th.
• Locations will be assigned on a first come, first-serve basis. Applicants may be asked to audition at a site other than their preferred site.
Recorded Audition Requirements
• Video recording applications must be received by May 15th. Click here to submit a video application
• Video recording must show student's entrance to and exit from the piano (including bow).
• Video must show a side-profile of the student's entire body (including head, feet, and hands) for the duration of the recording.
• Video applicants must choose whether or not they would like to be considered for advancement to the live final round.
• Applicants who do not plan on attending the final round should not ask to be considered for the final round.
• Non-competitive video applicants will receive their evaluations by mail on or before August 1, 2017.
• Applicants competing for admittance to the final round may be able to pick up their evaluations from the information desk at the finals.
• Preference for advancement to the final round may be given to live auditions, so applicants wishing to advance to the finals are encouraged to participate in a live preliminary round if possible.
